What a fantastic weekend photographing Sophie & Jonathan’s (aka Birdy!)  wedding.  I met some lovely people and some great characters. The celebrations started the night before with a cocktail reception at Hotel Quinta do Lago, followed by a quiet family meal.  On the day itself, there was an Ushers’ Lunch at Fuzio’s Restaurant, whilst the bride and the bridesmaids got themselves ready.  At the church, the guests started to arrive, helpfully directed by some of the guys with ‘Wedding’ written on bats – apparently the locals thought they were trying to hitch a lift!

The Church of Senhora da Fatima in Almancil was baking in the sun with the fantastic music of the multi-talented Lizzie Ball and James Pearson emanating from within.  You have to listen to these guys they are truly amazing!  In fact, I am sure it was James rattling the windows with the sound from the organ that set the clockwork toy hamster off in the wedding practice (that’s right isn’t it kids?! ;) ).

Well, sadly thankfully the hamster stayed quiet throughout the service, which was lovely.  Then onto the reception at Couleur France Restaurant.  Never mind cutting the cake, they smashed theirs with a hammer – well when in Rome…!  Dancing, war paint, drinking, party on!

Despite the volcanic ash cloud and the BA airstrike, everyone had a great time.  In fact, it was an all round pleasure to be there!

For a change, I have included two slideshow videos of the wedding photos to give you a flavour of the day!

The Sheffield Charity Construction Ball is 10 years old and had a bit of a birthday bash at the weekend.  The ball organised by Arup and HLM Architects was held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield and was a huge success in raising money for Sheffield Children’s Hospital.  The Acoustic Angels were fantastic and really got everyone up and dancing.

It’s great to see a successful company grow.  I have provided staff shots for Zoo Digital for a few years now – a great bunch of people doing tech clever stuff for Hollywood movie makers – no monkeying about!

Amy & Mike booked their wedding photography in Sheffield 2 years ago.  Sadly, you can’t pre-book the weather, but we were so lucky.  It rained whilst they were in the church and rained on the way to the reception, but was a lovely spring day in between!  Very different from Amy’s sister’s wedding when it rained, and it rained, and it rained!  It doesn’t spoil the day, but it is nice to get shots outside without umbrellas.  Amy looked fabulous in her Ian Stuart dress.

Now I am used to International weddings, but this one was exceptional.  The bride and groom came over from Australia to get married in Sheffield. The guests came from Australia, Canada, The Netherlands, and of course, the UK. Not to mention the Irish Priest!   It was a lovely spring day and so everyone was able to make the most of being outside at Christian’s Restaurant in Beauchief, Sheffield after the nuptial mass at Mother Of God on Abbeydale Road.  Thanks to Mgr Kilgannon for helping to organise an ‘everybody’ shot inside the church.  Despite the volcanic ash cloud, everyone made it to the wedding, and eventually, got home!
